About Rock Climbing Realms
Real Climbing Advice. Tested Gear. Safety First.
Who We Are
Rock Climbing Realms started because finding trustworthy climbing advice online is harder than it should be.
Too many “gear reviews” are just rewritten product specs. Too many technique videos skip the crucial safety details. And too many sites recommend gear they’ve never actually used on a real route.
We built Rock Climbing Realms to fix that.
Today, we’re a team of climbers, gear testers, and one very detail-obsessed editor (that’s me) focused on one thing: giving you climbing advice and gear recommendations you can trust with your life.
Meet the Team
Alfredo Ramses — Founder & Lead Editor
I’ve spent over a decade deep in the world of climbing gear and technique research. I won’t claim to have sent every classic—but I might be the best at figuring out which harnesses, ropes, and protection are worth your money and which are just good marketing.
I lead the editorial process, oversee every review, and personally write or edit most of what you read here. If a piece of gear or technique guide makes it onto Rock Climbing Realms, it’s because I’m confident it meets our safety and performance standards.
Our Network of Climbing Testers
We work with a small network of experienced climbers across different disciplines—sport, trad, bouldering, and alpine. They log the pitches. They wear out the shoes. They push gear to its limits and tell us what holds up and what doesn’t.
Their field notes, combined with our analysis of thousands of user reviews and manufacturer specs, form the backbone of every recommendation we make.
How We Work
Our Review Process
We don’t just copy the product description and call it a review. Here’s what actually goes into our recommendations:
- Deep Research — We analyze specs, compare models, and read hundreds of user reviews across REI, Backcountry, Mountain Project, and climbing forums.
- Real Climbing Tests — Our network of testers uses the gear on actual routes. Not a gym showroom—real rock, real falls, real conditions.
- Safety-First Evaluation — We score products on what matters: safety ratings, durability, weight, comfort, and real-world performance.
- The “Anti-Sell” — Every product we recommend comes with its honest flaws. No gear is perfect, and when it comes to climbing, you need to know the limitations.
Editorial Independence
We participate in affiliate programs (including REI, Backcountry, and Amazon), which means we may earn a commission if you buy through our links.
But here’s what that doesn’t mean: no brand pays for placement. Our recommendations are based on performance and safety, not sponsorship deals. If a product doesn’t perform on the wall, we say so—even if it would make us money to stay quiet.
